At Firebelly, we approached the transformation of NCDVTMH into Lumina Institute as both a renaming and a reclamation. The name Lumina emerged from a central truth: healing begins with light—not as a passive symbol, but as an active force that reveals, guides, and nurtures growth. Light became the foundation of the entire identity, channeling illumination, regrowth, and the wisdom carried by survivors and advocates alike.
Visually, we built a system that feels alive—radiant gradients, organic forms, and evolving shapes that echo the nonlinear journey of recovery. Verbally, the identity centers clarity and compassion, guided by survivor voices that acknowledge trauma while holding space for possibility—reinforcing Lumina's role not just as a resource, but as a true partner.
This transformation is rooted in a shared belief: that physical and emotional safety are fundamental rights. Lumina Institute's new identity reflects its commitment to a future where safety, love, and respect are not aspirational, but assured—a living expression of light as a catalyst for regrowth, understanding, and a more compassionate world.
