Confronting Design is an interactive event series co-hosted by One Design and the Chicago Graphic Design Club, centered on critical—and often divisive—topics shaping the design community. This year’s program focused on broadly challenging norms, inviting participants to step into discomfort and engage with ideas that feel risky, unfamiliar, or even dangerous.
The promotional system was centered around a system of evolving kinetic typography—a visual expression of dialogue, debate, and friction. Type shifts, collides, and adapts to mirror the energy of conversation and the tension of opposing perspectives. A photographic layer amplifies this unease, presenting imagery that feels unexpected and slightly off-balance for an audience more accustomed to passive, polished design events.
Together, the system embodies a central idea: moments of tension and uncertainty are opportunities for reflection, challenge, and change. The campaign positions discomfort not as something to avoid, but as a catalyst—encouraging designers to question what is, and imagine what could be.
